1. How old does my child have to be to start lessons?

As a general rule, we accept dancers who are five or older. Exceptions are sometimes made for younger dancers. If you have questions about starting your child in Irish dancing, please contact us.

2. Do you offer classes for adults?

Yes! We offer an adult class in Okotoks from 6:30-7:30 pm at Morris Gibson School. Click here to register.

3. What should my child wear to class?

Dancers should wear a pair of athletic shorts or a skort (please avoid denim fabric as it restricts movement), a t-shirt or tank top, white socks and dance shoes (if available.) New dancers can wear a pair of soft-soled jazz or ballet slippers or their socks. We have Used Shoe Coordinators available in both Okotoks and Lethbridge to help get your dancer started with a pair of Irish softshoes. Dancers are permitted to wear athletic pants and jackets for warm-up and cool-down only. Dancers are also encouraged to tie back long hair and bring a water bottle with their name on it. Bhriomhar athletic gear is available for order through the OIDA and the LIDA. Please contact us for details.

4. What is a TCRG?

"TCRG" stands for "Teastus Coimisium le Rinci Gaelacha." In English, this translates to "Commission Irish Dancing Teacher." A teacher who has passed their examinations with the Irish Dancing Commission in Dublin, Ireland is a certified teacher and his or her students are eligible to compete in local, regional, national and international competitions.

5. Will my child be required to compete?

While we encourage our students to compete when ready, we also understand that not every dancer is cut out to be a competitor. We offer recreational options for students who prefer not to compete and direct them towards show dancing and performance. We aim to work with each dancer individually to support them in the path they choose for their dance career.

6. Where can I find practice music?

We provide all our students with a practice CD at Christmas, but if you need additional music, we recommend purchasing a CD at a local competition or through Steele Celtic Dancewear. We also recommend Dean Crouch's website, which is an excellent resource for downloading high-energy tunes.

Should you have additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us.
