"BHRIOMHAR" : IRISH GAELIC : Dynamic, Energetic, LivelyWelcome to the digital home of the Bhriomhar School of Irish Dance. "Bhriomhar" (pronounced "bree-o-mar") is a Gaelic word meaning "energetic," "lively" or "dynamic." As our school name implies, we strive to develop dancers with a love of this unique dance form. Our school offers classes for children aged 4 and up in Okotoks and Lethbridge, Alberta.
The Bhriomhar School provides professional, comprehensive and affordable instruction with an emphasis upon fun, fitness and healthy competition. Our dancers perform at at variety of venues culminating in our annual concert, and compete at local, regional and international championships. Our school is actively supported by the Okotoks Irish Dance Association and the Lethbridge Irish Dance Association.
Our classes are taught by Okotoks residents Ali Hampshire, TCRG, and her sister, Cait Hampshire. Both are two-time Western Canadian Irish Dance Champions who spent many years at the international competitive level. As champion dancers and experienced teachers, Ali and Cait provide a safe, positive, energetic and culturally enriched learning environment that builds confidence and poise.
Bhriomhar has been awarded bronze in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Western Wheel's Best of the Foothills Reader's Choice Awards for the "Best Place to Take a Dance Class" and is the largest and most established school based south of Calgary. The Bhriomhar School is accredited by the Irish Dancing Commission in Dublin, Ireland, and proud to be based in these vibrant communities.
